From Lower to Proficiency in Only One Year

Colloquial English II/Preparation for the Lower
This super-intensive course covers levels B1 and B2 in only nine months, instead of the usual two years. Placing the emphasis on oral communication and contextualizing grammar and vocabulary to facilitate their assimilation, it is ideal for adults who have lost contact with the English language and need a refresher course as well as people of all ages who intend to sit for the ECCE or Cambridge First Certificate.
Creative Writing (English)
The course introduces students to the constituent elements of fiction writing. Through gradual exposure to the building blocks of a well-crafted story, students learn to create a sense of setting, outline a plot, build characters, establish pace, manipulate point of view, and concoct a style. During the course students construct their own short story for publication in British and/or American creative writing journals. The future of creative writing in Greece and publication opportunities in the US and the UK will also be mooted.

Το σεμινάριο εστιάζεται στη γραφή μυθιστορημάτων και διηγημάτων. Μέσα από μια αναλυτική ματιά στα επιμέρους μέρη ενός μυθιστορήματος η διηγήματος οι φοιτητές εξασκούνται στο να δημιουργούν με αποτελεσματικότητα κατάλληλους χαρακτήρες, πλοκή, οπτική γωνία, και ύφος. Κατά τη διάρκεια του σεμιναρίου οι συμμετέχοντες συνθέτουν το δικό τους διήγημα με σκοπό τη δημοσίευση. Επίσης περιλαμβάνεται λεπτομερειακή συζήτηση της εγχώριας και παγκόσμιας αγοράς βιβλίου καθώς και οι προοπτικές εξέλιξης και σταδιοδρομίας των συμμετεχόντων ως συγγραφέων και/η καθηγητών γραφής.
Business Speaking and Writing
This course offers hands-on guidance on the two most basic skills for success in the business world: a) drafting and polishing a large variety of business documents and b) giving punchy oral presentations. The writing component features detailed instruction and guided practice in producing emails, memos, and letters as well as drawing up proposals and compiling reports. Students assimilate key principles of business writing such as awareness of audience and purpose, stylistic succinctness, and appropriacy of tone and voice. The speaking component fosters confidence in oral communication by walking students step by step through the process of preparing PowerPoint presentations and delivering them effectively in front of large audiences.
Advanced English Conversation
Based on practical hands-on speaking activities carried on in a stimulating and fully supportive environment, this course builds fluency and accuracy, leading students a step closer to mastery of oral expression. Students conduct guided conversations in pairs, participate in structured class discussion, engage in well-planned classroom debates, and complete challenging public speaking assignments. By the end of the course, students are fully capable of delivering stunningly effective PowerPoint presentations as well as holding sophisticated conversations with native speakers in the course of which they can express opinions on a wide range of issues clearly and articulately.
