Dr. Demetris Bogiatzis is an accomplished educator and an emerging creative writer, who has lived in three countries (Greece, USA, UK) where he studied literature, creative writing, and foreign languages (he is a hyperpolyglot who speaks eight languages—Greek, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Russian—and intends to learn several more, including Chinese). Apropos of his education, Dr. Demetris Bogiatzis holds a B.A. in English Literature from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, an M.A. in English Literature from Winthrop University (USA), and a Ph.D. in English Literature from Texas Christian University (USA). He is currently pursuing a second PhD, this one in Creative Writing, at the University of Surrey (UK). He is now working on two English-language novels, a post-modern historical novel about the turbulent last year in the life of Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis (renamed as Cosmas Eleftherakis) and another historical novel set in 15th century Paros at the parlous time of piracy in the Aegean, featuring among others the notorious corsair Hayreddin Barbarossa as a character. Dr. Demetris Bogiatzis has so far published academic articles on Rhetoric and Modern British literature in top-tier American journals. He also has several commercial publications under his belt, including the acclaimed EFL classics Build up your Listening Skills for the ECPE and Build up Your Vocabulary Skills.
In addition to his educational accolades, solid publishing record, and rapidly evolving creative writing endeavours, Dr. Demetris Bogiatzis has amassed prodigious teaching experience over the years. During his post-graduate studies in the USA, he worked as a tutor at the Winthrop University Writing Center and as a teaching assistant at Texas Christian University, where he taught academic writing. In Greece he has worked in two prestigious private colleges as instructor of literature, creative writing, academic writing, public speaking, and critical thinking, and he also served as the Head of the English Department in one of them for a period of five years. Just as importantly for his students at the Center, Dr. Bogiatzis (who also goes in English-speaking contexts by the nickname D. B. James and the pet name Jamie) has an innate flair for accents, smoothly affecting four of them (standard American accent, deep southern accent, cut-glass BBC accent, and Cockney accent) to suit the occasion. Finally, his classes are enhanced by the close rapport he establishes with students, his tremendously high levels of energy and enthusiasm which infect the students as well, his extraordinary capacity for sharing his knowledge, and his unusually strong ethic of service. With a proven track record of signal success in teaching literature and language, Dr. Demetris Bogiatzis can help students reach their educational goals effectively and enjoyably.
